Pearl arrived on the farm in August 2017 after being adopted from Gerda’s Equine Rescue in Townsend, VT. When Pearl was first rescued by Gerda, she was dangerously thin and it was obvious that her owners had been neglecting her for some time. She also had a foal by her side and it was clear that she was a very nurturing mother. In the beginning Pearl had significant trouble standing but she recovered under the watchful eye of Gerda and with the help of Tufts Veterinary Clinic. Pearl remains on vitamin E to help maintain her muscular strength. She is a funny, kind and gentle horse to have around the farm and we are so grateful to have her as part of our StoneLedge family. She is a mother figure to all, human and animal alike.
Indy, who was born on the 4th of July - hence ‘Indy’, arrived at StoneLedge Stables in the Summer of 2020 to be a companion to Pearl who lost her good friend, Frank. Crazy enough, Sandy helped birth Indy, making it extra special that she now lives with Sandy on the farm! Indy exudes such a kind and calm presence and has the ability to teach students about patience, clarity, and emotional regulation. Due to her medical issues, she is not rideable, but she will take all of the brushing, bathing, and grooming she can get! As the leader of the heard, Indy also has the ability to be a follower which is an important skill we work to teach students on the farm. Sometimes you lead. Sometimes you follow.
Bella arrived April 2018 after being rescued by one of our farm families. She had been living in Hartford, CT in an apartment and was seized during a domestic violence dispute. Bella was both healthy and social when she arrived and thankfully had grown up with children. This previous exposure shines through when we see her interacting with the children in our program with such love. She loves to eat, be brushed and explore new areas of the farm, weather they are meant for her or not.
Cooper arrived at StoneLedge Stables on January 18, 2024 after owner surrender at the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in West Windsor, VT. Cooper is 7 years old and full of so much joy! Upon his arrival, Cooper was 134 pounds making him unhealthy and in need of exercise and dietary adjustments. He has now lost 40 pounds and enjoys snacking on carrots, apples, green beans, and cucumbers! Believe it or not, Cooper is cautious and kind around our farm community and their food! He truly immersed himself in the farm community in the most loving and soulful way.
Sunny arrived at StoneLedge stables on April 10, 2024. We were reached out to by a local woman who was concerned about Sunny’s past neglect. After living a life of neglect as a young lamb, Sunny is the most trusting, social, and kind creature. He has formed a strong bond with Beepers & has helped her immensely with her confidence. Sunny is a character! He is constantly making us laugh through the way he talks to us and smiles at us. We are so interested and excited to see how Sunny continues to interact with and teach our students. Sunny also contributes to our sewing curriculum with his gift of wool and we are so grateful!
Little Bo Beep was born during the March snow storm of 2023 and came to StoneLedge Stables as a bottle-fed lamb in the Fall of 2023. At that time, she loved interacting with students and living with the Lady hens. She truly is a teacher of anxiety after struggling to leave the Lady hens. When Sunny came along, Little Bo Beep gained a little more confidence, and although she can still be weary in bigger grounds, she is learning to stand in her own self and know that she is safe. Little Bo Beep aka Beepers enjoys body scratches, her Lady hens, and exploring the pasture. Little Bo Beep contributes to our sewing curriculum with her gift of wool and we are so grateful!
StoneLedge Stables cares for an ever changing flock of hens. Our hens vary in both age and breed the oldest of which is six. These older ladies no longer lay eggs but still have plenty of life, love and entertainment to provide to the farm. In May we will be starting to raise some new chicks to add to our existing flock of four birds.
Mama June and her babies (Smokey Robinson, Delilah Rose & Cheddar Bob) arrived on the farm on June 22 after a life of neglect on the streets in Kentucky. We are unaware of Mama June’s age but the veterinarians believe she is under a year old herself. We are currently fostering Mama June & her babies through Brown Dog Farm with the hopes of adopting the whole family as we are need of working cats. Mama June has been such a wonderful mama. She has been trusting, loving, and curious and is learning every day as she is interacting with our farm community. As her kittens have grown healthier, they are active, funny, and oh so sweet! We are excited to be given the opportunity to help Mama June & her kittens feel safe & thrive both physically and emotionally. As their health continues to improve, we are hoping to be able to keep the family intact, which requires financial support. Their medical care and basic supplies are expensive, but if the farm community allows, we would love to give this family a forever home where they will feel loved, protected, and prosperous. Danny arrived at StoneLedge Stables in 2020 after his family needed to move. He was unable to move with his family who believed that StoneLedge would be the perfect placement for him - and it certainly has been! Danny is social, loving, and frisky! He teaches our students how to focus… if you’re not focused, Danny will leave his gate, so pay attention! He’s watching you. Danny loves to be petted, eat carrots, and dandelion greens.
